Atlanta Shopping
Atlanta, Georgia is seen as a shopping destination for shoppers from many other smaller cities all over the southeastern United States. Many people come from all over the south to visit the many malls and shopping centers for which Atlanta is known. Below are some of the areas to consider during your shopping trip to Atlanta, particularly around the Georgia Tech campus in downtown Atlanta.
Virginia-Highland Area
Just east of the downtown area and Georgia Tech's campus is the Virginia-Highland area of town, where Virginia Avenue crosses N Highland Avenue. There are lots of restaurants and shops in this area, and it is very pedestrian friendly. Here, you can find many eclectic clothing boutiques, outdoor stores, stationers, among other types of shops. This part of town is very trendy, so many of the stores have unique and broad selections. This area of town can also be pricey, but it is also not uncommon to find great deals on trendy clothing or accessories.
Atlantic Station
A relatively newer shopping area in Atlanta is located just north of the downtown area, alongside I-75/85, otherwise known simply as "the connector." Atlantic Station features many super stores, such as Ikea, Target, and even a Publix grocery store. You can also find many national retailers here selling anything from shoes to clothing to glasses to home furnishings. There are often street markets at Atlantic Station on the weekends. These markets attract vendors from all over the south to sell their goods. Atlantic Station will not disappoint!
Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza
Further north from Atlantic Station in the Buckhead area of town are two well-known and well-established malls, Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. These malls feature high-end designers and also national department stores such as Macy's, Nortstrom, and Belk. There are also several shopping areas that have been built around these malls that feature additional shops in a convenient location.
As you can see, Atlanta has something for every shopper to enjoy. There are national retailers and department stores, as well as high-end designer boutiques that line the streets of many areas of town. Eclectic shopping areas feature trendy clothing, while the malls feature more traditional shops as well. Come on down to the south and enjoy the shopping!
